Antique 1800s Marble Top Maple Washstand w/ Majolica Tiled Back - $525 (Homer)

The flowers are raised and detailed. It is impossible to find such a nice group of so many original tiles in such great condition and the colors complement the maple tones perfectly. We have not removed any tiles to see if they are marked, but this piece is worth the price for the tiles and marble alone! The drawer pulls and bronze(?) towel bar on the right side are original and have a lovely patina. The board across the bottom is an older addition and has been there over 30 years that we know of, probably a lot longer. Casters appear to be original and roll smoothly.
A versatile piece, this washstand would be equally at home in an entryway or foyer, kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom. A large wicker basket placed on the bottom shelf can provide storage or serve as a laundry hamper. For a foyer, it would look great with a flower arrangement to complement the tiles placed on the bottom shelf. The drawer would be a handy place to keep keys, gloves, and other items. In the kitchen, the marble top is a great size to use as the perfect surface to roll out pastry dough. Or use it as a vanity in a bedroom or add a vessel or other type of lavatory sink for a bathroom.
The tiles and marble are in excellent condition. A few of the tiles on the top row are loose. The joints could use tightening/re-gluing and the crown needs to be attached better. The bottom shelf does not appear to be original to the piece, but is an older addition and the finish is fairly worn. Rest of finish is in much better condition than the bottom shelf. There are no cracks, breaks, or splits in the wood, but the piece is wobbly. Overall the condition of the wood itself is very good and with a few gentle tweaks it would be in excellent shape.
53.5" tall, 18" deep, and 36" wide without the towel bar (38" with towel bar). Marble top is 29 inches above floor.
