Early 19th century gate leg drop leaf table. Versatile & known for its space-saving design & expandability. It features a fixed center section & two hinged "leaves" that can be folded down to hang vertically, or raised and supported by pivoted "gate" legs to extend the tabletop. It can serve as a dining table, a desk, a craft table, a temporary kitchen island, or even a bar for entertaining, adapting to various needs by raising one or both leaves. This type of table originated in England in the 16th century; became popular in the American colonies. Similar tables listed at $800.
