This 20 hp engine recently failed while running on an older WoodMizer, i.e. it was not out of oil. Although it’s from 1986, there are less than 300 hours on this motor/saw. The piston rods broke and were shattered for no apparent reason. The cam shaft was also broken as a result.
I’m selling all the parts together as is, for someone to rebuild it or combine components with another to complete one. I don’t have time to work on it. I make no assurance about any of the parts. My non-professional assessment of the components, for what it’s worth, are these:
Block and Oil pan- Look okay, but there are some light scratches on the cylinder walls. Honing seems like it might be adequate before new pistons and rods. Despite trying to be careful and although they were moving somewhat, 3 head bolts wound up breaking off and will need to be removed.
Pistons- One is completely damaged. One looks okay. The rings on these don’t look bad and it wasn’t burning oil when it went up.
Crank Shaft- One of the rod bearing mounts is pretty scratched up and the other has a couple of dings in it. I don’t know if this can be repaired and reused or not. The shaft can be turned by hand, so it seems the main bearings seem okay.
Cam Shaft- One side turns and moves its valves, the other does not, because of the break.
Gearbox- As noted, the gears turn. I did not remove the cover to see them, but they seem to be working.
Valves- I did not remove the valve covers. So I don’t know the condition of the parts; springs, for example. On the head's surface, the valves seem to seat okay. They don’t seem to be broken and don’t appear abnormal.
The Flywheel, Gearwheel, Input manifold, exhaust pipes and Engine Shroud are in good condition. The starter works. The points box is okay and the coil was replaced in recent years. The carburetor has been a little finicky of late. It probably cold use a rebuild. The dual mufflers were cheapies even when new and are pretty much rusted. The engine manual is included. I didn't include photos of items in good condition, but can add any, which are specifically requested.
Looking around at used parts on eBay and elsewhere, I believe $300 would make this a good deal for a professional. Being mostly apart, a lot of the nuisance disassembly work is completed.
