Vincent Bach, New York "Stradivarius" Bb Pro Trumpet, Built 1943
Medium Bore, .450"
Please read the entire description below!
Greetings! I offer this B-flat trumpet marked "Stradivarius / Model / Vincent Bach / Corporation / New York / U.S.A." on the bell throat. Serial number 6077 indicates production in 1943. "M" on valve block indicates Medium Bore, measures .450" at the 2nd slide. Construction is yellow brass with nickel trim, with replacement clear lacquer finish. I am selling it on consignment for a friend.
CONDITION: Cosmetically excellent. This instrument was overhauled many years ago. I'm not sure who did the overhaul and relacquer, but I expect it was Allied Supply Co. I suspect that the receiver was replaced, and possibly the leadpipe, although I've seen at least one other NY Bach with this kind of receiver (cylindrical tip rather than hexagonal.) But since the receiver is not a stock Bach part, it is safer to assume that both it and the leadpipe have been replaced. The replacement lacquer is about 100%, with no losses that I can see. The 3rd-slide throw has its original stop nuts. I see no corrosion anywhere. The pistons are quite tight with good action and minimal blow-by, although the springs are quite stiff for my liking and I'd probably replace them with lighter springs. The 3rd-slide throw is short and rather stiff so it may need lapping and adjustment. The bell flare has a slight ripples from dent repair and one small ding near the rim. There is a protective patch on the bell throat where it rests on the left index finger. The instrument is sold AS-IS with no warranties. See pictures. WYSIWYG.
PLAYING QUALITIES: It plays well with a compact, somewhat bright tone. The M bore makes it a rather tight blow that doesn't require a whole lot of air. I generally play a small mouthpiece (10-1/2C), and this horn seems to respond better to larger mouthpieces than that. However, I'd have no issue with taking it on one of my gigs. NOTE that I make no representations made about its suitability for your intended use.
ACCESSORIES: Later Elkhart-era Bach case. No mouthpiece. See pictures; WYSIWYG.
THE STRAIGHT DOPE: This NY Bach Strad is a classic, collectible pro trumpet which should appeal to a collector, recreational player, or pro looking for something a bit different. It is sold AS-IS. All sales FINAL unless I determine that I significantly misrepresented it. I'll be happy to answer any questions about the instrument itself. Thanks for looking!
SHIPPING: Local pickup preferred, cash, in person. Insured shipping WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL US ONLY via UPS will be $50, with payment by PayPal Goods & Services only. Located in Syracuse NY.
ATTENTION SCAMMERS: I DO NOT reply to "Is this still available?" If the post is up, it's available. I've seen it all. NO bank drafts; NO "agents"; NO meeting you at some parking lot; NO text messages; NO blind gee mail addresses. I may have been born at night, but not LAST NIGHT.
