For your consideration I offer this vintage F.E. Olds & Son "Standard" professional tenor trombone. The bell is marked "TEMPERED / BELL / THE / OLDS / STANDARD / —*— / MADE BY / F.E. OLDS & SON. / LOS ANGELES / CALIF". This model was Olds' top-of-the-line pro tenor trombone until the introduction of the Super. Serial number 15181 indicates production in 1946. It has Olds' legendary fluted inner slide legs. Bell diameter 7-1/2" (indicated by stamp on the bell section.)
CONDITION: This instrument is in good playing and cosmetic condition for a 78-year-old horn. Everything works. It has recently been serviced and is ready to play right out of the case. A few small dent repairs have been made, and the gooseneck has had some pretty good dents taken out (it's still just a little crooked, but perfectly playable.) The handslide is in very good condition with excellent action and no dents. The original lacquer finish is about 80% present, with weakness/wear on the bell and touch areas, and has darkened to a lovely honey color. There are still a few dings/scratches from normal use. It is sold AS IS. WYSIWYG. See pictures.
PLAYING QUALITIES: I am told by one of the areas best up-and-coming young pros that this horn plays very well (he wanted to buy it but was a little strapped...) I would be happy to set up an appointment for you to test-play it. NOTE that I make no representations made about its suitability for your intended use. WYSIWYG.
ACCESSORIES: Original factory "log-style" case with exterior wear and in desperate need of a replacement handle; music lyre; and generic mouthpiece marked "Made in England." Also includes a program from a US Marine Band concert at the Stanley Theater in Utica NY on Sept 28, 1977, a golf scorecard from the Mt. Washington Hotel, and some photos presumably from a previous owner from around the same time. See pictures; WYSIWYG.
THE STRAIGHT DOPE: This 1946 Olds Standard is a fine player and is in good condition. It would be a great horn for an advancing student or recreational player. All sales FINAL unless I determine that I significantly misrepresented it. I'll be happy to answer any questions about the instrument itself. Sold by professional musician. I DO NOT reply to "Is this still available?" If the post is up, it's available. Because of the high number of scammers, email via Craigslist relay ONLY; I will reply to serious inquiries with my contact info.
SHIPPING: Local pickup only, cash only, in person.
ATTENTION SCAMMERS: I've seen it all. NO bank drafts; NO "agents"; NO meeting you at some parking lot; NO text messages; NO blind gee mail addresses. I may have been born at night, but not LAST NIGHT.
All you nice honest folks out there in Craigslistland, please contact me if you have an interest in this instrument. I'll be glad to email/text more pics and details. Thanks for looking!
