For your consideration I offer this vintage F.E. Olds & Son "Studio" professional tenor trombone. The bell is marked "Studio / Model / F.E. Olds & Son / Los Angeles / Cal.". This model was one of Olds' top-of-the-line pro tenor trombones , and remained in production until Olds closed in 1979. Serial number 50842 indicates production about 1950. It has a dual-bore handslide. Bell diameter 7-3/8". Construction is mostly brass, with nickle-silver flare and trim.

CONDITION: This instrument is in excellent playing and cosmetic condition for a 75-year-old horn. Everything works. It has recently been serviced and is ready to play right out of the case. The handslide is in very good condition with good action (I'd rate it at about 8-8.5/10) and no dents; depending on your standards, you might want your slide tech to tweak it. The original lacquer finish is about 90% present, with losses on the touch areas. There are a few dings/scratches from normal use. It is sold AS IS. WYSIWYG. See pictures.

PLAYING QUALITIES: I am told by area pros that these horns excellent lead and jazz horns. (I occasionally play a Studio trumpet and I agree.) I would be happy to set up an appointment for you to test-play it. NOTE that I make no representations made about its suitability for your intended use. WYSIWYG.

ACCESSORIES: Original factory case with light-to-moderate exterior wear, very good inside; vintage Roth mouthpiece, and original Olds lyre. See pictures; WYSIWYG.

THE STRAIGHT DOPE: This 1950 Olds Studi is a fine player and is in excellent condition. It would be a great horn for an advancing student, recreational player, or professional. All sales FINAL unless I determine that I significantly misrepresented it. I'll be happy to answer any questions about the instrument itself. Sold by professional musician.
