Thursday evening at 4pm, we brought our dogs to a Rover babysitter in Liverpool NY - named Huijun.
We were expecting the woman shown in the Rover account photos, but the 'sitter' turned out to be a man. He greeted us in the driveway and explained that it was really HIS account. He said he puts his wife's photo on his ROVER page because "people trust women". (Deceit #1 -SITTER SWAP) (He just uses his wife's photo to give the impression of 'compassion').
Then the man brought us and our dogs into his small garage. The garage, with the usual paint can/ car oil, and other paraphenalia - potentially poisonous to dogs - was set up with WIRE DOG CAGES ! OK.. We thought he was going to bring us into the house from the garage door.. NOPE. The dogs never did see the inside of his house.. Deceit #2 NO DOGS INDOORS -His Rover page says -'dogs allowed on furniture' Except they never get to see furniture - They're kept in cages in the garage!
He said he didn't bring us all into his house, because he has a dog and that his dog was nervous about meeting new people and dogs (So WHY be a dog sitter?) He declined to do a 'meet and greet' between all of our dogs, saying... "Later I'll put your dogs in the cage and let mine run around, then I put her in the cage and let them run around, till they get used to each other'. He told us that he'd just leave our dogs in the garage for a few hours. Deceit #3.. HE HAS NO DOG - We don't believe he has a dog. We never saw a dog. This was just his pretext for not bringing any of us into the house.
Before we left, he said he'd leave our dogs in the garage for a 'few hours', then bring them into the house. In fact, he never did. Neither did we see the inside of his house. When we got home after dropping off our dogs, and asked him finally about this.. He texted us, "I don't like to bring strangers into my house'. So! we're not 'clients' that just paid him $140.. we're 'strangers'. (I kept that text)
On the drive home from dropping off our dogs, the details of the peculiar episode kept troubling us. We finally woke up to the fact that he NEVER INTENDED to bring our dogs in the house. We asked for photos showing the dogs indoors. He had none. He texted us that he 'refused to give us any photos because we cancelled him'! He never gave us photos of our dogs in his house because he never brought them into the house. We found out they spent the 3 hours in Huijun's sub-freezing dark garage, in cages.
DECEIT #4 - HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR DOG
IT WAS 32 DEGREES BELOW FREEZING LAST THURSDAY NIGHT IN ONONDAGA COUNTY
Thursday night in Liverpool NY, Local temperatures dropped to zero degrees! That meant Huijun's unheated garage was zero degrees.! Dogs running around outside may be for a while in sub zero temperatures.. but through the night? 8 - 10 hours in sub freezing temperatures in small wire cages?
Deceit #5 FAKE PHOTOS. We believe all the photos on his Rover site, of him or his wife with dogs in their home are staged. Show the dogs in the house, pretend to caress them - then back to the cages they go. NOTICE that there are NO photos of dogs on their furniture.
Deceit #5,.. FAKE REVIEWS
Huijun's reviews are suspect. He claims to have 'extensive experience taking care of dogs'. That would mean a long time with Rover. But his 6 reviews were posted within 2 weeks in November 2025.. November 11th, 11th, 18th, 18th, 18th & 30th.. Hmmmmm. We were not permitted to leave a review of our experience, even though we booked Huijun, he had our dogs in his care and he still has 50% of our payment.. Since our experience with him, we noticed that all 6 reviews on his Rover page are 'spoken' as if English is not someone's first language. Read the reviews.. they all have errors, and share the same voice, and hand.
Did Huijun have his family or friends write them?
Case in point:
Sarah F.
Nov 11, 2025
"Yan is wonderful, .. made me feel completely comfortable leave our 15-yearS-old dog in her care.
She send daily updates
which give me so much peace of mind
and was always quick respond."
The writer is not a native English Speaker. Here's one more example, with a similar voice:
Ashleigh R.
Nov 18, 2025
"Huijun took great care of our 4 years old dog..."
Both reviews had the same error - Instead of 4 year old dog, it's 4 years old dog..
Like Sarah's '15 years old dog'.. It appears that one person wrote all of these reviews.
As soon as we got home, we called Rover immediately, cancelled the reservation and booked a different sitter that also lives in Liverpool. That wonderful sitter, Brent, God bless him, saved us a 1.5 hour round trip while we were preparing for our Friday trip. He offered to pick our dogs up for us from Huijun. When Brent got to Huijun's house to get our dogs, the man did not bring HIM into the house either. But there was no need to bring Brent into his home ->our dogs were STILL in Huijun's frozen garage.
ROVER IS RESPONSIBLE
We are calling Rover to account too.
#1, they refunded us only 1/2 of the cancelled stay, applying the crooked sitter's cancellation policy rather than applying their pet safety guarantee. They also didn't take into account that we rebooked a different sitter for the same night.
Rover problem #2 with Rover.. They have not allowed us to leave a review on Huijun's page. Which led us to notice that ALL Rover sitters somehow have a 5 star review. Why? Bad reviews are bad for business. Bad reviews apparently aren't allowed, or don't get posted. THIS WARPS THE TRUTH FOR PET OWNERS
We have been in touch with Rover to alert them about Huijun's deceptive and dangerous 'dog care' practices, and are waiting for their response. We will post that also.
