Job purpose
The CDL Trainer delivers classroom, range, and on‑the‑road instruction that prepares students to meet FMCSA, New York State, and OSHA requirements for safe, compliant commercial driving. The Trainer advances Page Training Center’s mission by maintaining training standards well above industry norms and fostering a safe, professional, and compliant learning environment.
Duties and responsibilities
CDL Training Program:
Communicate and submit all required student and training data to the FMCSA and NYS DMV in an accurate and timely manner.
Implement all ELDT theory, range, and road training, including required assessments, online module tracking, knowledge testing, and certification submissions.
Conduct and coordinate all CDL driver training and testing activities, including:
Classroom/theory instruction
Range skills training
On‑the‑road driving instruction
Behind‑the‑wheel observation and performance coaching
Pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections
Ensure all instructional activities are aligned with FMCSA, DOT, New York State, OSHA, and Page Training Center safety standards.
Maintain complete, organized, and compliant personnel files on all students, including attendance, training hours, evaluations, and testing records.
Monitor student progress and provide coaching, feedback, and support to ensure skill development, safety awareness, and readiness for CDL testing.
Uphold and promote all Page Training Center and Page Trucking safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
Serve as a professional representative of Page during all interactions with students, customers, drivers, carriers, and partner organizations.
Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent training operations and student success.
Qualifications
Associate degree preferred
2 Years of experience with OTR driving regulations/conditions
Knowledge of applicable FMCSA/DOT rules and regulations
Solid understanding of transportation equipment/terminology
Manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, service-driven environment
Maintain a productive workday independently
Good interpersonal skills and service attitude
Conflict resolution
Must pass a post offer, preemployment drug test and agree to companies drug free workplace policies
Be certified as CDL Driver trainer
Or able to achieve all qualifications for driving instructor in New York State
DMV road test
100 question instructors written exam
Completion of driving instructor 30 hour course (within 1st year of being an instructor)
Able to pass eye exam
Hold a valid CDL class A with no Manual Restriction
